FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers is set to play in Sunday’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts after being removed from the commissioner’s exempt list earlier this week due to his ongoing legal issues involving domestic violence and drug charges.
Following his return to the Patriots’ practice facility, Peppers participated in team workouts for the first time since being placed on the exempt list on October 9. His placement came just two days after he was arrested for allegedly pushing his girlfriend’s head into a wall and choking her.
At 29 years old, Peppers has entered a not guilty plea in Quincy District Court regarding the allegations of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, along with possession of a Class “B” substance, reportedly identified as cocaine. A trial has been scheduled for January 22.
The NFL has indicated that their investigation into Peppers’ case is still ongoing and will not be influenced by the changes in his status on the team’s roster.
So far this season, Peppers has participated in four games, recording a total of 23 tackles.
