On Saturday, hockey teams Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators engaged in a trade involving backup goaltenders. The Predators welcomed Justus Annunen to their roster, while the Avalanche acquired Scott Wedgewood as part of the transaction.
As part of the deal, the Predators also received a sixth-round selection for the 2025 NHL Draft. Annunen, a 24-year-old goalie, is now set to serve as the backup to Nashville’s starting goaltender, Juuse Saros. Annunen’s career statistics show that he has a record of 6-4 and a goals-against average of 3.23. He was selected in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft by the Avalanche.
On the other hand, the 32-year-old Wedgewood is expected to challenge Alexandar Georgiev for the starting position in Colorado. During his recent season with Nashville, Wedgewood achieved a record of 1-2-1 along with a goals-against average of 3.69. He had previously signed a two-year contract with the Predators back in July.
Both teams are looking to strengthen their goaltending depth with this swap, aiming for a competitive edge as the season progresses.
