NASSAU, Bahamas — In an impressive performance, Ben Gregg recorded a career-high 24 points on an efficient 8-of-10 shooting as Gonzaga triumphed over Davidson with a score of 90-65 during the fifth-place match in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. Graham Ike also contributed significantly with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Braden Huff and Dusty Stromer chipped in with 14 and 10 points respectively for the Bulldogs, who improved their record to 7-1.
Gonzaga jumped out to a strong start, with Huff scoring six points early on and Gregg adding four more before Ryan Nembhard completed a three-point play, leading the Bulldogs on a 13-1 scoring spree that gave them a 33-19 advantage with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half. Just minutes later, Gregg connected on a 3-pointer, extending the lead to 15 points before Gonzaga took a 42-31 lead into halftime. Throughout the second half, Davidson was unable to close the gap, continuously trailing by double digits. For the Wildcats, Reed Bailey led the scoring with 19 points, while Roberts Blums added 11.
Ryan Nembhard, a standout for Gonzaga, entered the game ranked first in the nation for both total assists and assists per game. Having set a program record with 243 assists last season, the senior delivered his best performance yet with a tournament-record of 14 assists against Davidson. This marked his third consecutive game—and the sixth this season—where he achieved double-digit assists.
Looking ahead, Davidson is set to host Charleston Southern on December 6, marking the second meeting ever between the two teams, following Davidson’s victory in their first matchup back in December 2017. Meanwhile, Gonzaga will face No. 8 Kentucky in the Battle in Seattle at Climate Pledge Arena on December 7, hoping to replicate their success from the previous season, where Graham Ike scored 23 points to help the Bulldogs secure an 89-85 victory over the Wildcats at Kentucky last year.
