NASSAU, Bahamas — In a thrilling overtime clash at the Baha Mar Hoops, Hofstra University triumphed over Rice with a final score of 68-63. Cruz Davis played a pivotal role for Hofstra, contributing seven of his total 22 points during the extra period.
Davis was impressive as he went a perfect 2-for-2 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line in overtime. In addition to his scoring, he also secured eight rebounds and recorded three steals, helping the Pride improve their season record to 5-2. Kijan Robinson also made a contribution with 12 points, albeit on a shooting night where he made 5 out of 15 attempts, including 2 of 8 from beyond the three-point line. Michael Graham made his presence felt on the boards, amassing 15 rebounds alongside seven points.
On the other side, Trae Broadnax led the scoring for the Owls with 16 points. Rice’s Kellen Amos had a solid performance as well, racking up 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Jacob Dar and Alem Huseinovic both contributed eight points to the team’s effort.
The contest was tightly contested throughout, with Hofstra leading narrowly at halftime, 31-28. TJ Gadsden was instrumental in that first half, scoring seven early points for the Pride. The second half saw Rice outscore Hofstra by three points, setting up an exhilarating finish that had both teams tied at 56-56 by the end of regulation.
