LYNCHBURG, Va. — Isaiah Ihnen delivered an impressive performance with 25 points as Liberty triumphed over Central Penn with a commanding score of 93-36 on Friday evening.
Ihnen also contributed significantly on the boards, grabbing eight rebounds for the Flames, who now hold an 8-1 record for the season. Brett Decker Jr. was another standout, showcasing his shooting skills by going 5 for 9 from the floor, including an exceptional 4 of 7 from the three-point line, and perfecting his free-throw attempts to tally 18 points. Additionally, Taelon Peter scored 10 points, hitting 4 of 10 shots, though he struggled from beyond the arc, making just 1 of 6.
On the opposing side, Central Penn’s scoring efforts were led by Dahsan King, who managed to put up eight points. Teammate Tyray Cooper added six points to the scoreboard, alongside Riley Youg, who also finished with six points. Central Penn is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
The Flames seized control of the game just 16 seconds into the first half and never looked back. A stellar first-half performance by Ihnen helped Liberty establish a substantial lead, as he scored 20 points before halftime, allowing the team to head into the locker room with a 45-21 advantage. The Flames intensified their dominance in the second half, executing an impressive 27-2 run, which widened their lead from 24 points to a staggering 49 points. In the final half, Liberty outscored Central Penn by an impressive 33 points, with Peter contributing the most for his team in that period, scoring a total of 10 points.
This match demonstrated not only Liberty’s offensive firepower but also their defensive capabilities, turning the game into a rout and solidifying their strong season record.
