PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — In the championship match of the Acrisure Invitational on Friday, Great Osobor led Washington to a 76-69 victory over Santa Clara by scoring 19 points.
During the final moments of the game, Santa Clara rallied back with Carlos Stewart Jr. contributing five points and Elijah Mahi adding four during an impressive 11-1 run, narrowing the gap to 72-69 with just 11 seconds remaining.
However, Tyler Harris secured the win for Washington by sinking a pair of crucial free throws. Following this, Stewart’s attempt at a 3-pointer fell short, and Osobor sealed the deal with a decisive dunk.
With this win, Washington improved to a 6-1 record and extended their consecutive victories against Santa Clara to four. This marks the Huskies’ first five-game winning streak since 2019.
Osobor’s impressive performance included making 8 of 17 attempts from the field, while also contributing eight rebounds and five assists. Zoom Diallo chipped in with 15 points and DJ Davis added another 13 points for Washington.
For Santa Clara, Stewart was the standout player, netting 20 points with four successful 3-point shots as the team connected on 10 of 24 (42%) attempts from beyond the arc. Mahi also had a strong showing, finishing with 19 points. The Broncos held their last lead early in the game at 15-13 with 11:49 remaining in the first half.
Looking ahead, Washington is set to begin its Big Ten Conference schedule against UCLA on Tuesday, while Santa Clara will travel to McNeese for their next game on the same day.
