NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Jason Edwards made a significant impact off the bench by hitting four three-pointers and tallying 23 points, propelling Vanderbilt to a commanding 87-56 victory over Tennessee Tech. This win marked the Commodores’ seventh consecutive triumph.
Edwards contributed heavily in the first half, nailing two three-pointers and scoring 12 of the team’s points, which helped Vanderbilt (7-1) establish a 39-30 lead by halftime. On the other side, Kyle Layton scored nine points, including two three-pointers, to keep Tennessee Tech (4-4) competitive in the first half.
The second half saw A.J. Hoggard take charge, scoring seven points in a row with a combination of two layups and a three-pointer, extending the Commodores’ lead to 52-36 with 15:47 remaining in the game. Vanderbilt then continued to dominate, outscoring the Golden Eagles 48-26 after the break.
Throughout the match, Edwards successfully shot 8 of 15 from the field, with 4 of those attempts coming from beyond the arc. He added three free throws out of four attempts and secured five rebounds. Hoggard finished with 15 points, shooting 6-for-9, while Chris Manon contributed 11 points, helping Vanderbilt secure its 5-0 home record. Notably, Devin McGlockton was a strong presence on the boards with a game-high 14 rebounds.
Rodney Johnson Jr. led Tennessee Tech with 11 points, but the Golden Eagles are still searching for their first road win, now holding a record of 0-3 away from home.
Vanderbilt showcased their offensive prowess with a shooting percentage of 46.5%, knocking down 11 of 31 from the three-point line and hitting 10 of 12 from the charity stripe. Conversely, Tennessee Tech struggled, shooting 31.3% overall, connecting on 8 of 23 from long range, and making 8 of 10 free throws.
Vanderbilt’s only defeat this season came in their opener against Drake, where they lost 81-70.
