PARIS — Coach Will Still made a triumphant return to face his former team as Lens secured a 2-0 victory over Reims on Friday, elevating them to sixth position in the Ligue 1 standings.
Still had departed from Reims by mutual agreement towards the end of the previous season, having been in charge for nearly two years. In June, he accepted the coaching role at Lens, a club located in the northern part of France.
The opening goal for Lens was set up by Polish winger Przemyslaw Frankowski in the 23rd minute. His cross was misplayed by the Reims defense, allowing midfielder Adrien Thomasson to chest the ball down and score with precision.
Despite facing pressure, Reims goalkeeper Yevhann Diouf showcased his skills with several impressive saves throughout the match. However, he was ultimately bested by Lens striker M’Bala Nzola in the 61st minute, who added to the score and solidified his team’s lead.
This defeat left Reims holding the ninth position in the league standings, while Lens celebrated their ascent up the table following a well-earned victory.
