ARLINGTON, Texas — The New York Giants will be without Tommy DeVito as they face the Dallas Cowboys, as he is inactive due to a sore throwing arm. This development has led to Drew Lock stepping in as the starting quarterback for their Thanksgiving Day matchup.
DeVito had previously started last week in place of the released Daniel Jones, eagerly anticipating a return to Dallas, where he made his debut for the Giants last year. However, a 30-7 defeat against Tampa Bay left him with arm soreness, prompting him to delay his trip to Texas for treatment. Unfortunately, the time wasn’t sufficient for him to take the field against the Cowboys this Thursday.
Lock, who has been serving as the backup in his first season with the Giants, has become a favorite among fans. Following the decision to bench Jones, coach Brian Daboll opted for DeVito. Lock, who was chosen in the second round of the 2019 draft by the Denver Broncos, has started 21 out of 24 games with the team, holding an 8-13 record. Last season, he played as a starter for Seattle in two games while Geno Smith was sidelined due to an injury.
Lock’s game appearance comes as left tackle Jermaine Eluemunor will miss his first game of the season due to a quad injury. The Cowboys, meanwhile, will be without several key players for the second week in a row. All-Pro right guard Zack Martin is contending with ankle and shoulder injuries, cornerback Trevon Diggs is managing groin and knee issues, and tight end Jake Ferguson has been ruled out with a concussion.
On a positive note for the Cowboys, left guard Tyler Smith returns after sitting out due to an ankle injury, while receiver Brandin Cooks is also active for the first time since their narrow 20-15 victory over the Giants on September 26.
