LUSAIL, Qatar — Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr. have come to an understanding following a recent disagreement that resulted in Leclerc expressing his dissatisfaction over team strategy during the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The frustrations were evident when Leclerc was overtaken by Sainz, ultimately finishing in fourth place, behind his teammate.
On Thursday, both drivers confirmed that they had a productive conversation aimed at mending their relationship before the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix. They emphasized that they are now ready to concentrate on their goal of securing the constructors’ championship for Ferrari.
“Whatever happened in Vegas, we’ve talked it through and we’re in a good place now, which is what matters most,” Leclerc stated. He expressed confidence in their relationship, highlighting that they have always been able to communicate effectively, even when racing circumstances don’t unfold as planned.
As they approach their penultimate race together as teammates, Sainz also asserted that their friendship remains intact, acknowledging that misunderstandings can arise. “During heated moments, we tend to be quite expressive about our feelings, which can lead to frustration,” he noted.
Sainz reflected on his experience with Ferrari and Leclerc, expressing gratitude for their time together, which he will cherish even after he transitions to Williams for the 2025 season to drive alongside Alex Albon.
“We share a personal relationship as well, which has always been strong despite the professional challenges we’ve faced,” Sainz added. “Reflecting on these four years with Ferrari, every moment has been enjoyable. Even the tough experiences, I’m sure I will look back on them fondly in a few decades.”
Next season, Leclerc will partner with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari. He mentioned that while they haven’t yet developed a deep relationship, he has immense respect for Hamilton’s achievements and is optimistic about forming a strong connection.
“It’s a different dynamic because I don’t have a long history with Lewis, but I truly admire what he’s done in the sport, and I anticipate a positive relationship with him,” Leclerc concluded.
