PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas — In an impressive display of talent, Mikay Williams put forth a stellar performance with 24 points while Aneesah Morrow contributed significantly with 20 points and 15 rebounds, propelling the No. 7 LSU to an 82-65 victory against the No. 20 N.C. State in the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship on Wednesday.

The Tigers never looked back after Morrow sank consecutive jump shots late in the first quarter. Following Saniya Rivers’ tying shot for N.C. State at 17, LSU surged ahead when Morrow drew a foul and converted two free throws. Kailyn Gilbert, who played a key role in their narrow one-point victory against Washington, then knocked down a three-pointer to further solidify LSU’s lead.

In addition to Williams and Morrow, Flau’Jae Johnson added 16 points for the Tigers, while Gilbert scored 12. For the Wolfpack, Rivers led the scoring effort with 21 points. Supporting her were Zaiaha James with 13 points, Zoe Brooks contributing 12, and Madison Hayes adding 11 points.

At halftime, LSU held a comfortable 42-29 advantage and extended their lead to as much as 19 points during the fourth quarter.

Key notes from the game highlighted LSU’s focused approach following a close win against Washington, as they faced their first ranked opponent of the season. On the other hand, the Wolfpack will need to bolster their scoring efforts when they face high-caliber teams, having already lost to two Top 10 teams and No. 17 TCU.

A pivotal moment occurred in the second quarter when Morrow’s jumper ignited a 12-2 run, granting the Tigers a 40-27 lead. After that, the Wolfpack found themselves unable to significantly close the gap, only managing to come within nine points for a brief 41 seconds.

Statistically, the Tigers stood out with a shooting percentage of 53% from the field and dominated the rebounding battle, collecting 44 rebounds compared to N.C. State’s 24. LSU’s bench also outscored the Wolfpack’s second unit, contributing 22 points against just six.

As they look to maintain their momentum, LSU will return home to face North Carolina Central on Sunday. Meanwhile, N.C. State will be at home, preparing to take on No. 18 Mississippi on December 5 as part of the SEC/ACC Challenge.
