WACO, Texas — Jayden Nunn delivered an impressive performance with 23 points, including seven from beyond the arc, leading No. 17 Baylor to a commanding 91-60 win over New Orleans on Wednesday night.
Nunn’s standout moment came just before the game when he was honored for surpassing 1,000 career points earlier this month. He quickly made his mark by sinking two three-pointers within the first 68 seconds, giving Baylor an early 6-0 advantage.
In addition to Nunn’s contribution, freshman guard Robert Wright chipped in with 18 points, while Jeremy Roach added 17 points alongside eight assists. Norchad Omier also had a notable game, recording 12 points and 13 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double.
By halftime, Nunn had already amassed 20 points, contributing to Baylor’s substantial 50-23 lead. Since joining Baylor, he has scored a total of 457 points in just 42 games, following his two seasons at VCU where he netted 591 points in 65 games.
For New Orleans, Dae Dae Hunter led the team with 18 points, successfully draining six three-pointers.
In terms of highlights, New Orleans is currently in the midst of an arduous stretch consisting of nine consecutive road games that will last until January 4. During this challenging period, they will rack up approximately 3,700 miles of travel and notably will not return home for a game in December, marking a first in the program’s history.
For Baylor, this win provided a much-needed respite following their recent 77-62 loss to No. 7 Tennessee in the Bahamas, which was their fourth matchup against a ranked team. In contrast, Baylor had previously scored a total of 104 points in their two preceding home games.
A pivotal moment in the game arose when the Bears launched a 16-1 run to close out the first half, with Nunn igniting and concluding this impactful stretch with three-pointers.
One notable statistic from the game showed that Omier achieved his fifth double-double of the season, bringing his career total to 73, the highest among active NCAA players. He previously played two seasons each at Miami and Arkansas State before joining Baylor.
Looking ahead, Baylor is set to face two-time defending national champion UConn on December 4. Meanwhile, New Orleans will open its Southland Conference schedule against Nicholls on December 7.
