CHARLESTON, S.C. — During a decisive matchup on Wednesday, Derrin Boyd propelled the Charleston Cougars to a 79-64 win over Northern Kentucky, scoring a remarkable 22 points.
In addition to his scoring, Boyd contributed six rebounds, showcasing his all-around game. AJ Smith also made a significant impact, netting 12 points, grabbing five rebounds, and securing three steals for the Cougars, who improved their record to 5-2.
Justas Stonkus had an efficient night, finishing with 12 points on a perfect shooting performance, going 4 of 4 from the field.
For the Norse, who fell to 1-5 this season, Sam Vinson was the standout player, totaling 21 points and adding six rebounds along with two steals.
Trey Robinson also shined, finishing with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, in addition to making five steals. Dan Gherezgher Jr. contributed 11 points as well.
The Cougars took an early lead into halftime, with Boyd leading his team with 12 points, allowing Charleston to head into the break with a 38-30 advantage.
In the second half, the Cougars surged ahead, starting with a 7-0 run that widened their lead from six to 13 points.
Boyd continued to dominate, scoring a team-high 10 points in the latter half, solidifying Charleston’s victory.
