MOBILE, Ala. — In a thrilling game Tuesday, Western Illinois edged out South Alabama with a narrow victory, concluding the contest at 64-63. Both Ryan Myers and Marko Maletic emerged as standout players, each contributing 20 points to propel the Leathernecks to their fourth win of the season.

As the clock ticked down, South Alabama’s JJ Wheat managed to sink a three-pointer, followed by a layup, narrowing the score to 61-60 with just 20 seconds left on the clock. However, Myers responded by sinking two crucial free throws with only 11 seconds remaining. Julius Rollins further extended the lead with one successful free throw, bringing the score to 64-60 before the Jaguars had a final opportunity. Wheat capped off the game with another three-pointer, but it was not enough to secure the win for South Alabama.

In addition to his scoring, Myers also grabbed five rebounds during the match for the Leathernecks (now at 4-3). Maletic demonstrated shooting prowess, landing six of 12 attempts from long range. Rollins contributed as well, adding 13 points to the team’s total alongside six rebounds.

For the Jaguars, also standing at 4-3, Myles Corey was the top scorer, notching 17 points in the effort. Randy Brady made a notable impact with a double-double, scoring 13 points while also securing 11 rebounds and distributing four assists. Barry Dunning Jr. complemented the squad with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals, while JJ Wheat rounded out the scoring with 13 points.

It was a contest marked by intense moments and back-and-forth scoring, emphasizing the close competition between the two teams.
