IOWA CITY, Iowa — On Tuesday night, the Iowa Hawkeyes triumphed over the South Carolina Upstate Spartans with a commanding score of 110-77, highlighted by standout performances from Brock Harding and Owen Freeman.
Harding achieved a double-double, contributing 20 points and 10 assists, while Freeman added 17 points to the scoring effort. The team’s shooting accuracy was impressive, with Iowa hitting 60.6% of their shots (43 of 71), including 46.2% from beyond the arc (12 of 26).
In addition to Harding and Freeman, bench player Drew Thewell made a significant impact, scoring 15 points with an efficient 6 of 9 shooting. Josh Dix also shined, netting 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting, and fellow reserve Riley Mulvey added 11 points, making all four of his attempts. Furthermore, backup Josh Koch achieved a rare double-double, dishing out 14 assists and grabbing 10 rebounds as the Hawkeyes improved their record to 6-1 with this victory, marking their first game scoring over 100 points this season.
For the Spartans, Brit Harris led the team with 20 points, and reserves Carmelo Adkins and Isaiah Skinner contributed 14 and 10 points, respectively, alongside Breylin Garcia who also tallied 10 points. Despite the loss, the Spartans have been averaging 81 points per game this season with a record of 2-7.
Iowa jumped out to an explosive 14-0 lead within the first three and a half minutes of play and maintained a significant advantage throughout. By halftime, the Hawkeyes were leading 55-28.
However, less than nine minutes into the game, Seydou Traore appeared to suffer an ankle injury, causing him visible distress as he was assisted off the court and did not return to the game.
This match showcased Iowa’s offensive firepower and solidified their standing as a formidable opponent this season.
