NORTH SOUND, Antigua — Alzarri Joseph showcased an impressive performance by registering two wickets during the initial session of the fifth day, leading the West Indies to a commanding 201-run victory against Bangladesh. This match marked the first encounter of a two-test series held in Antigua.
On Tuesday, Bangladesh struggled significantly, succumbing in less than seven overs as the West Indies secured their first home test victory in more than two years.
Joseph, who finished with figures of 2-32, initiated the downfall by taking out Hasan Mahmud for a duck, and subsequently dismissed Jaker Ali when the scoreboard read 31.
This left Bangladesh in a precarious position at 129-9. Joseph’s relentless attack continued, as he bowled a fierce bouncer that struck Shoriful Islam on the shoulder. Shoriful attempted to carry on but was unable to continue after just eight balls, leading to his retirement due to injury and ultimately concluding Bangladesh’s innings, which handed the West Indies a well-earned win.
This triumph marks a significant milestone for the West Indies, as it is their first home test victory since they overcame Bangladesh in June 2022, thus breaking a frustrating four-match streak without a win.
In the match, the West Indies first posted an impressive total of 450-9 declared in their first innings and managed to score 152 in their second. On the other hand, Bangladesh recorded 269-9 declared in their first innings and concluded their second innings with a mere 132 runs.
The next test is scheduled to start on Saturday at Sabina Park, located in Kingston, Jamaica.
