CANCUN, Mexico — In a competitive matchup, Darryl Simmons II contributed significantly to Gardner-Webb’s 73-69 victory over SE Louisiana on Tuesday. Simmons recorded an impressive 19 points, shooting 7 of 13 overall, including 2 of 5 from beyond the arc, and was perfect from the free-throw line, completing all three of his attempts.
Supporting Simmons, Pharell Boyogueno put up 15 points, successfully making 6 of 13 shots, with 3 being from three-point territory. He also showcased his defensive skills with seven rebounds and four steals. Anthony Selden matched him with another 15 points, shooting 6 of 10 from the field and hitting 3 out of 6 from the charity stripe.
For SE Louisiana, Jeremy Elyzee was the standout performer, leading the team with a powerful 22-point effort. He also contributed on defense with three steals and two blocks. Sam Hines Jr. played well too, scoring 12 points while grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out six assists, and recording four steals. Meanwhile, Jakevion Buckley contributed an additional 11 points along with four assists and three steals, rounding out the Lions’ efforts.
Both teams competed fiercely, but Gardner-Webb managed to pull ahead to secure their third win of the season, improving their record to 3-3, while SE Louisiana fell to 2-4.
