MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — On Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins made the decision to waive veteran safety Marcus Maye and activate rookie safety Patrick McMorris from injured reserve.
Maye, who had signed with the Dolphins in June, participated in 11 games this season, securing three starts. Throughout those games, he recorded a total of 30 tackles, including one tackle for a loss. Should he clear the waiver process, there exists the possibility for Maye to rejoin the team’s practice squad.
Prior to joining the Dolphins, Maye played for the New Orleans Saints, where he was released earlier this year in March as part of a cost-cutting strategy after spending two years with the team.
The waiving of Maye has paved the way for Patrick McMorris, a sixth-round draft pick by Miami earlier this year. McMorris was sidelined at the beginning of the season due to a calf injury, which relegated him to injured reserve.
Currently, the Dolphins boast one of the top pass defenses in the NFL, ranked eighth overall, as they allow an average of 197.5 passing yards per game.
