EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Quarterback Tommy DeVito of the New York Giants completed his initial start of the season with discomfort in his throwing arm, leading to uncertainty regarding his participation in the upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday.
DeVito was not included on the injury report released on Monday. Coach Brian Daboll stated he became aware of the ailment to DeVito’s right arm shortly before the team engaged in a walkthrough practice on Tuesday.
Daboll expressed optimism about DeVito’s ability to play but mentioned that backup Drew Lock would receive additional snaps during the brief workout session.
After their game on Sunday, the Giants, who hold a record of 2-9, are currently preparing for their matchup against the Cowboys, who have a 4-7 record, by conducting walkthroughs.
DeVito took over the starting role last week following Daboll’s decision to bench Daniel Jones amid a five-game losing streak. In a surprising move, Jones requested co-owner John Mara to release him, and the team subsequently granted his wish so he could explore new opportunities, clearing waivers on Monday.
In his performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, DeVito completed 21 of 31 passes for a total of 189 yards, although the team suffered a 30-7 defeat. He faced four sacks during the game and had to momentarily leave the field due to a hard hit after releasing a throw in the fourth quarter.
