MIAMI — Citations against Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill related to a confrontation with law enforcement in September have been dismissed due to the absence of the officers involved at a court hearing.
The tickets, which included charges for careless driving and not wearing a seatbelt, were thrown out after the Miami-Dade Police officers did not appear at a scheduled court session on Monday. The tickets arose from an incident on September 8, when Hill was pulled over near Hard Rock Stadium for allegedly speeding prior to the Dolphins’ season opener. The situation escalated, leading the police to forcibly remove Hill from his vehicle, place him on the ground, and handcuff him.
On Tuesday, Hill posted on social media platform X, questioning the absence of critics who often comment on online platforms by stating, “Where all the internet cops now?”
The Miami-Dade Police Department indicated that a statement would be available later that day.
Footage captured by police body cameras from the incident revealed that Hill seemed to have sped by two motorcycle officers monitoring traffic outside the stadium. After signaling him to stop, one officer approached Hill’s McLaren sports car, where Hill handed over his driver’s license but frustratingly requested the officer not to knock on his window. Following this, he rolled his window back up.
The interaction quickly escalated into a more heated confrontation, with officers eventually removing him from the vehicle and forcing him face-down onto the ground. The footage shows the officers yelling at Hill, although he did not resist nor retaliate against their aggressive actions. However, he did push back verbally, telling one officer, “Don’t tell me what to do.”
After some time, Hill was helped to his feet, but when he expressed difficulty due to a knee injury, one officer assertedively placed him in a sitting position on the curb.
Following a 30-minute detention, Hill was issued the citations and permitted to enter the stadium subsequently. An internal investigation was launched concerning the conduct of one officer, who has since been reassigned to administrative duties, though no findings have been disclosed thus far.
