Kraken’s early third-period scores lead to continued success against Ducks

ANAHEIM, Calif. — In a thrilling matchup, the Seattle Kraken triumphed over the Anaheim Ducks with a score of 3-2 on Monday night, marking their eighth consecutive victory against the Ducks. The turning point came early in the third period, when Andre Burakovsky and Brandon Montour found the net just 24 seconds apart to secure the win for the Kraken.

Shane Wright also contributed a goal, and goaltender Joey Daccord made 21 saves, helping the Kraken improve their record to 6-2-0 since November 8. On the other hand, the Ducks were led by Frank Vatrano and Trevor Zegras, who both scored, yet their four-game points streak came to an unfortunate end. Lukas Dostal, the Ducks’ goaltender, turned away 24 shots in the contest.

Burakovsky opened the scoring for Seattle with his first goal of the season, deftly redirecting the puck past Dostal just 46 seconds into the third period, bringing the score to a tied 2-2. Montour quickly followed up, unleashing a powerful shot from the right circle through heavy traffic to put the Kraken ahead, recording his seventh goal of the season.

In notable developments, Shane Wright made an impact in his return to the lineup after being a healthy scratch for the previous three games. The fourth-overall pick in the 2022 draft ended a personal 13-game points drought with his goal in the first period. Meanwhile, the Ducks received essential contributions from their forwards, though Zegras noted that his goal was just his second in the last 19 games, and Vatrano’s celebration was subdued after scoring his second goal in the past 11 matches.

One of the key moments of the night came when Anaheim’s Leo Carlsson left the game with 4:37 left in the second period following a collision with Tye Kartye. Carlsson hit the back of his head on the ice after his helmet came off, resulting in an upper-body injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

Statistically, the Kraken have made a strong showing against the Ducks, winning four times in Anaheim and four times at home during this streak dating back to November 2022.

Looking ahead, both teams will travel to Seattle for the second leg of their home-and-home series, set to take place on Wednesday.
