GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands — In a thrilling matchup on Monday night, Kezza Giffa showcased his scoring prowess with 23 points, leading High Point to a 73-67 victory over Old Dominion during the consolation round of the Cayman Islands Classic.
Giffa also contributed significantly on the boards, grabbing six rebounds. D’Maurian Williams followed closely, putting up 19 points while displaying impressive shooting form; he made 7 of 10 field goals, including a stellar 3 for 3 from beyond the arc, and also converted 2 of 4 free throws. Kimani Hamilton added to the Panthers’ scoring with 14 points, shooting 4 of 8 from the floor and finishing 6 of 8 from the free-throw line, and he secured eight rebounds as well.
On the other side of the court, the Monarchs were led by Sean Durugordon, who scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Robert Davis Jr. contributed 15 points, while Jaden Johnson had a solid outing with 14 points and six assists to further support Old Dominion’s efforts.
The first half ended in a deadlock, with both teams tied at 34-34. Williams had a notable first-half performance, scoring 11 points. High Point shifted the momentum in the second half, executing an 11-0 run that erased a nine-point deficit, allowing them to seize the lead at 49-47 with 11:24 remaining. Giffa was instrumental in the latter half, notching up 13 points to help secure the Panthers’ victory.
Looking ahead, High Point is set to face off against Hampton in the fifth-place game on Tuesday, while Old Dominion will square off against Duquesne for the seventh-place title.
