MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Ja Morant made his return to the court on Monday night for the Memphis Grizzlies as they faced off against the Portland Trail Blazers, having been sidelined for the previous eight games due to injuries to his hip and pelvic muscles.
After being considered a game-time decision, the Grizzlies confirmed just 45 minutes prior to tip-off that Morant would indeed participate in the matchup.
The All-Star guard had sustained his injury during a drive to the basket in the latter part of a game against the Los Angeles Lakers on November 6, where the Grizzlies secured a 131-114 victory.
Morant, who was the second overall selection in the 2019 NBA Draft, has had a solid start to the season, averaging 20.6 points, 9.1 assists, and five rebounds over the eight games he has played.
Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins indicated that while he would be mindful of Morant’s playing time, there would be no limitations imposed on him. The team is set to play four home games within the upcoming week.
“We’ll certainly be cautious, but we’re not going to be overly restrictive,” Jenkins stated.
