OMAHA, Neb. — The Creighton Bluejays may be without their point guard, Steven Ashworth, for their upcoming game against San Diego State in the Players Era Festival scheduled for Tuesday in Las Vegas.
Ashworth sustained a sprained right ankle during a recent loss to Nebraska on Friday. Head coach Greg McDermott expressed uncertainty regarding the duration of his absence, indicating that the ankle injury appeared significant.
“He landed on an opponent’s foot while attempting a 3-point shot, which left him vulnerable,” McDermott commented after the game. “It seems he twisted it quite harshly.”
On Monday, an athletic department representative conveyed that Ashworth’s participation in the match against the Aztecs is doubtful.
Currently, Ashworth is a crucial player for Creighton, averaging 16 points per game, making him the team’s second-leading scorer. He also leads the squad with an impressive average of 6.4 assists per game and has maintained a perfect record at the free-throw line, making all 23 attempts to date.
