RALEIGH, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes’ head coach, Rod Brind’Amour, announced on Monday that goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov has entered the concussion protocol.
Kochetkov was forced to leave the game against Columbus on Saturday after a collision with his teammate Sean Walker. Brind’Amour did not provide a specific timeline regarding when Kochetkov might return, further complicating the team’s already precarious situation at the goaltending position.
“You see some guys bounce back really quick, while for others, it may take longer,” Brind’Amour stated. “We’re hopeful that he falls into the quicker recovery category.”
At 25, Kochetkov has had a strong performance this season, holding a record of 10 wins and 2 losses along with a goals-against average of 2.42 and a save percentage of .904.
Additionally, the Hurricanes recently announced that veteran goaltender Frederik Andersen would require knee surgery, which is expected to keep him sidelined for 8 to 12 weeks.
The Hurricanes are scheduled to play against the Dallas Stars on Monday night.
