‘What needs improvement?’ Pep Guardiola of Man City confronted with queries amid his toughest losing streak ever

MANCHESTER, England — Through a challenging phase that marks the worst losing streak in his tenure, Pep Guardiola stands resolute in his commitment to his established strategy.

Recently, Manchester City has faced five consecutive losses across all competitions, exacerbated by a significant 4-0 setback against Tottenham, placing them eight points behind Premier League frontrunner Liverpool.

Looking ahead to their Champions League match against Feyenoord, City enters the encounter on the heels of a 4-1 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in their previous European outing. Nonetheless, Guardiola expressed unwavering confidence in his philosophy during a press conference on Monday.

“What should I change?” he posed, emphasizing the team’s steadfast dedication to their principles. “We are not going to change our beliefs. We have a strong faith in our process and the core elements that define our play.”

He further elaborated, stating that in this trying period, it is essential to stick closely to their foundational ideas. “We need to focus more directly on our principles. Don’t modify too much — even less than before.”

Since Guardiola’s arrival in 2016, Manchester City has been a dominant force in English football, claiming victory in the Premier League for four consecutive years.

Under his leadership, the club has secured six of the last seven league championships and amassed a total of 15 major trophies, culminating in a Champions League title in 2023. Despite the current struggles, Guardiola remains optimistic about City’s potential to contend for top honors this season.

“I have the feeling that this season we will achieve remarkable things. I don’t give up easily, and I believe we will be fighting for success,” he stated confidently.
