DALLAS — Bishop T.D. Jakes, the founder of The Potter’s House, a prominent megachurch located in Dallas, experienced what the church described as a “slight health incident” while he was delivering a sermon to the congregation.

On Sunday, during his address, Jakes, who is 67 years old, suddenly sat down and exhibited signs of trembling, prompting those around him to gather in concern, with some seeking prayers for his well-being.

In an official statement, the church conveyed, “Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour-long message.”

Later that day, Jakes’ daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, along with her husband, Touré Roberts, provided an update via social media. They reassured followers that Jakes was making progress in his recovery.

“Bishop is doing well, he’s recovering well, he’s under medical care, he’s strong,” Touré Roberts explained in the video.

The couple did not disclose the location where Jakes had been taken for medical evaluation, and inquiries directed to the church early Monday morning went unanswered.

Since its inception in 1996, Jakes has established The Potter’s House as a non-denominational church that boasts more than 30,000 members and has expanded to campuses in Fort Worth and Frisco, Texas, as well as in Denver, according to the church’s official website.

Besides his role in ministry, Jakes is recognized as an author and has been involved in film production and acting. He also gained prominence by speaking at the inauguration of former President Barack Obama in 2009.
