Washington’s 19 points lead New Mexico to a 99-68 victory over Texas Southern

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — On Sunday night, the New Mexico Lobos triumphed over Texas Southern with a final score of 99-68, thanks in large part to Tru Washington’s impressive performance, as he contributed 19 points to the victory.
In addition to his scoring efforts, Washington recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds and also made four steals, showcasing his all-around game for the Lobos, who now hold a record of 5-1 for the season.
Mustapha Amzil was another key contributor, adding 18 points to the scoreline while shooting 6 for 15 from the field, including 2 for 6 from beyond the arc, and also sinking 4 out of 6 free throws. Filip Borovicanin made a notable impact as well, finishing with 11 points after hitting 5 of his 6 field goal attempts.
For Texas Southern, struggling with a 0-5 record, Kavion McClain led the team with 15 points and dished out six assists. Jaylen Wysinger also chipped in with 12 points, while Zaire Hayes rounded out the scoring with 10 points of his own.
The turning point of the game came just before halftime when New Mexico took the lead with 1:13 remaining, holding a 38-31 advantage at the break thanks to Washington’s eight points in the first half.
The Lobos didn’t look back, extending their lead to as many as 29 points during the second half, largely due to an impressive 11-0 run that changed the momentum of the game. Borovicanin shone in the latter half as well, scoring 11 points to help seal the victory for New Mexico.
