AMIS, Iowa — In a thrilling matchup on Sunday afternoon, Audi Crooks made a dramatic last-second shot, sealing an 80-78 victory for No. 8 Iowa State against Drake while scoring a season-high 33 points.
Adding to the team effort, Addy Brown contributed 13 points along with eight rebounds, Emily Ryan recorded 11 points and 12 assists, and Kenzie Hare chipped in 10 points for the Cyclones.
The Bulldogs, now at 2-3, were propelled by an outstanding performance from guard Katie Dinnebier, who netted an impressive 39 points, shooting 13-for-16 overall and 8-of-10 from beyond the arc. Additionally, Dinnebier made 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Anna Miller played a significant role as well, contributing 18 points as Drake fought hard to challenge the Cyclones, while Abbie Aalsma added 11 points off the bench.
The Bulldogs, who were anticipated to finish atop the Missouri Valley Conference this season, struggled with ball control, tying a season high with 19 turnovers that resulted in 24 points for Iowa State.
For the Cyclones, this victory marked a much-needed rebound following their earlier loss to Northern Iowa on Wednesday night.
A crucial stretch in the first quarter saw Iowa State execute a 10-0 run, which ultimately made the difference in a tightly contested game.
In an interesting note, Iowa State was outrebounded 42-31 by the Bulldogs, a first for the Cyclones this season in that category.
Looking ahead, Iowa State is set to travel to Florida for a matchup against No. 1 South Carolina on Thursday, while Drake will play against Wyoming the same day in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.
