KINGSTON, R.I. — On Sunday, Javonte Brown made a notable contribution, scoring 17 points as the Rhode Island Rams triumphed over the Charleston Cougars with a decisive score of 91-53.
Brown’s performance was complemented by seven rebounds and four blocks, showcasing his all-around abilities for the Rams, who maintain an undefeated record of 5-0.
Jamarques Lawrence also had a strong outing, achieving 16 points with an effective shooting percentage, hitting 6 of 11 attempts, including 4 of 8 from beyond the three-point line.
Sebastian Thomas added to the scoring efforts with 15 points, making 5 of his 10 shots and successfully converting 3 of 6 from long range, alongside 2 of 4 from the charity stripe.
For the Cougars, AJ Smith was their leading scorer with 10 points, while Derrin Boyd and Deywilk Tavarez each contributed nine points. Boyd also facilitated the offense with four assists during the game.
The Rams took control early in the game, claiming the lead just 29 seconds into the first half and never relinquishing it.
Brown stood out in the opening half, scoring 10 points and helping to propel his team to a commanding 45-16 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, Rhode Island further extended their advantage, outscoring Charleston by nine points, with Lawrence leading the team in the latter period with a total of eight points.
Looking forward, both teams are scheduled to compete again on Wednesday. Rhode Island will face Detroit Mercy, and Charleston will host Northern Kentucky.
