In a thrilling matchup at the Homewood Suites Classic tournament held in Fort Myers, Florida, CSU Bakersfield triumphed over Northeastern with a score of 68-60 on Sunday afternoon.
Corey Stephenson made a significant contribution to the Roadrunners’ victory by scoring 21 points, hitting 8 of 16 field goal attempts, and converting 5 out of 6 from the free-throw line.
Marvin McGhee also played a crucial role, contributing 12 points on 4 of 10 shooting from the field and 1 of 5 from beyond the arc, along with a perfect 3 for 3 at the free-throw line.
Additionally, McGhee added 10 points to the scoreboard, showcasing his shooting skills by going 3 for 7 from the field and 3 for 5 from three-point range.
On the other side, LA Pratt led the Huskies with a notable performance, scoring 15 points and grabbing six rebounds. Masai Troutman also matched this with 15 points, while Harold Woods chipped in with eight points for Northeastern.
At halftime, CSU Bakersfield held a narrow lead over Northeastern, sitting at 34-29, with McGhee being the top scorer for his team at that point.
The turning point came when Stephenson executed a layup with just over four minutes left in the game, which set CSU Bakersfield ahead permanently at 56-54.
Looking ahead, both teams are set to compete again on Saturday, with CSU Bakersfield traveling to face Southern Utah, while Northeastern is scheduled to take on Vermont.
