In an unfortunate turn of events for the Charlotte Hornets, forward Grant Williams has sustained a torn ACL in his right knee and will be sidelined for an indefinite period, as confirmed by the organization on Sunday.
This injury took place during the final minutes of a competitive matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, where the Hornets fell short with a score of 125-119.
So far this season, Williams has participated in 16 games, including seven starts, putting up averages of 10.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steals in approximately 29.9 minutes of play per game.
The Hornets have already been dealing with the absence of centers Mark Williams and Nick Richards due to their own injuries, and losing Grant Williams is likely to exacerbate their challenges in rebounding and overall team performance.
A native of Charlotte, Williams joined the team earlier this year in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks on February 8. Throughout his NBA career, he has accumulated an average of 7.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists over 380 games played, including 108 starts, spanning six seasons. He was drafted in the first round as the 22nd overall pick by the Boston Celtics in 2019.
