CHARLESTON, S.C. — In a competitive match on Sunday at the Charleston Classic, VCU emerged victorious over Miami, securing a 77-70 triumph in the seventh-place game. Joe Bamisile was a standout performer, contributing 22 points to the Rams’ effort, while Max Shulga closely followed with 18 points, along with eight rebounds and nine assists. Both players were effective from beyond the arc, each sinking four three-pointers, and backup guard Zeb Jackson also made a significant impact by adding 12 points to the scoreboard.

The game was marked by VCU’s consistent control, as they never found themselves trailing. A key moment came during the first half when they executed a decisive 10-0 run, stretching their lead to 33-21. Bamisile played a pivotal role during this stretch, hitting two three-pointers and ending the half with a total of 16 points. By halftime, VCU was ahead 42-33.

In the second half, the Rams maintained a comfortable lead, holding a double-digit advantage for a span of seven and a half minutes. They led 72-62 with just 2.5 minutes left on the clock when Miami attempted to mount a comeback with a 10-0 run of their own. The Hurricanes narrowed the gap to 72-66 with only 1:22 remaining. However, VCU effectively sealed their victory by converting five out of six free throw attempts in the closing moments of the game.

For Miami, Lynn Kidd was notable, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. His efforts were supported by Jalen Blackmon with 11 points, Nijel Pack who scored 10 points, and Brandon Johnson, who grabbed 12 rebounds throughout the game.

With this victory, VCU improved their record to 5-2, marking their sole win in the tournament after suffering close defeats against Seton Hall and Nevada. In contrast, Miami concluded the tournament with three losses, having fallen to Drake, Oklahoma State, and VCU.
