CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a concerning moment during their matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina Panthers rookie tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders was carted off the field after a troubling fall late in the second quarter.
Sanders had just completed a 10-yard catch near the sideline when Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie collided with him, causing Sanders to flip over in the air and impact the back of his head as he landed.
Medical personnel attended to him on the field, and he remained down for several minutes while teammates encircled him in support.
Ultimately, Sanders was placed onto a backboard for safety and transported to the locker room for further evaluation.
As he was being taken off the field, he seemed to express some level of awareness, raising his arms with a trainer’s assistance resting on them.
At the time of the incident, the Panthers were behind in the game, tallying a score of 20-6.
Prior to the injury, Sanders had made a notable contribution to the team, recording three receptions for a total of 49 yards.
