PROVO, Utah — In an impressive display on Saturday night, BYU dominated Mississippi Valley State with a commanding 87-43 victory, showcasing five players who scored in double digits. Fousseyni Traore led the charge with 15 points and secured 11 rebounds, marking another strong performance for the Cougars, who are now 5-0 for the season.

Kanon Catchings contributed significantly with 14 points, while Trevin Knell added 12 points to the scoreboard. Both Dallin Hall and Dawson Baker chipped in with 10 points each, with Hall making three successful 3-point shots. BYU demonstrated efficiency, shooting 53% from the field, hitting 31 of 58 attempts, and 34% from beyond the arc with 11 of 32 successful long-range shots.

Traore’s shooting stats were notable as he hit 5 of 8 attempts, continuing a streak of scoring in double figures for the past three games. With 700 career rebounds entering this matchup, he is just five rebounds shy of surpassing Jay Cheesman for 18th place on BYU’s all-time list.

The Cougars set the tone early, launching a strong 32-13 run, leading the game 55-27 at halftime. During the first half, Catchings was particularly effective, scoring 12 points, while Traore contributed nine points and secured four rebounds.

On the other side, Donovan Sanders was the standout for Mississippi Valley State, leading his team with 14 points. Arthur Tate and Walter Hamilton also made contributions, with 12 and 10 points respectively.

After completing a five-game home stretch, BYU is set to play against Mississippi in the upcoming Rady Children’s Invitational at UC San Diego on Thursday.
