Western Carolina closed out the season on a high note, finishing with a record of 7-5, including a commendable 6-2 in the Southern Conference, having won six of their last eight contests.
Despite a valiant effort by Samford quarterback Quincy Crittendon, who scored on a 1-yard run with just 33 seconds remaining to complete a 15-play, 73-yard drive that took four-and-a-half minutes, the Bulldogs couldn’t overcome the deficit. They were able to bring the score to 47-42, but Western Carolina successfully recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock.
AJ Colombo played a crucial role in the victory for the Catamounts, catching nine passes for 116 yards and one touchdown. On the opposing side, Crittendon threw for 203 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions, but shone on the ground, accumulating 209 rushing yards on 23 carries, including four rushing touchdowns from distances of 48, 31, 19, and 1 yard, leading Samford to a final record of 4-7 and finishing 3-4 in conference play.
