AKRON, Ohio — In a thrilling matchup at the Akron Basketball Classic on Saturday night, CJ Hines showcased his scoring prowess, netting 24 points to lead Alabama State to a narrow 77-75 victory over Lamar.
Hines had an impressive performance, making 8 of 15 shots from the field, including three successful 3-pointers out of five attempts. He also turned in a clutch performance at the free-throw line, converting 5 of 6 attempts, contributing significantly to the Hornets’ (3-2) win. TJ Madlock was close behind, contributing 11 points and securing nine rebounds. His crucial second free throw with just 19 seconds remaining helped Alabama State establish a four-point cushion. Amarr Knox also added to the scoring effort with 11 points.
For the Cardinals (1-4), Alexis Marmolejos emerged as the standout player, scoring an impressive 28 points. Adam Hamilton supported the team with a double-double, notching 12 points and 11 rebounds.
