Roman Josi nets two goals in Predators’ 4-1 victory over Jets

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Roman Josi netted two goals while Jonathan Marchessault contributed with a goal and an assist, leading the Nashville Predators to a decisive 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night.

The Predators’ victory was enhanced by a goal from Steven Stamkos and a solid performance in goal by Juuse Saros, who stopped 22 shots. With this win, Nashville improved its record to two victories in its last three outings.

For the Jets, the lone goal came from Adam Lowry, while Eric Comrie was in net, making 32 saves. This result ended Winnipeg’s two-game winning streak.

This match marked Nashville’s first home game after a challenging two-week, five-game road trip in which they managed only one win, finishing with a record of 1-2-2.

Stamkos scored during the third period on a power play, and notably, six of his seven goals this season have been scored while the team is on the man advantage. Additionally, he has tallied three power-play goals over the last three games.

In a nutshell from the game: The Jets split their opening back-to-back set of games for the season, having previously defeated Pittsburgh on Friday. Despite this loss to a Central Division rival, Winnipeg entered this contest with 19 points ahead of Nashville in the overall standings.

For the Predators, overcoming a rough start to the season with a victory over one of the top teams so far in the league could potentially instill a new level of confidence for the roster, which started the night with only 15 points—the lowest in the league.

A pivotal moment came just 1:44 after Stamkos had put Nashville up 2-1, when Marchessault grabbed a rebound in the slot and fired a wrist shot past Comrie on his glove side, extending Nashville’s lead to two goals.

Remarkably, prior to this game, Marchessault had not registered any points during five-on-five play this season. However, he found success with both a goal and an assist at even strength during this match. In the summer, he signed a five-year contract worth $27.5 million with the Predators, aiming to enhance the team’s offensive capabilities.

Looking ahead, the Jets are set to visit Minnesota on Monday, while the Predators will head to New Jersey on the same day.
