LONG BEACH, Calif. — Fresno State secured a close victory over Long Beach State with a final score of 72-69 on Saturday night, thanks in part to a standout performance from Amar Augillard, who scored 25 points.
Augillard had a shooting line of 8 for 21 from the field, including 4 for 13 from beyond the arc, and contributed 5 of 7 from the free-throw line for the Bulldogs, who improved their record to 3-2. Mykell Robinson supported the team’s efforts, netting 16 points while shooting 3 of 9 and maintaining a perfect record at the charity stripe, making all 10 attempts. Robinson also collected seven rebounds and dished out five assists during the game. David Douglas Jr. added 10 points to the tally, hitting 3 of 9 from the field with a couple of crucial 3-pointers and converting 2 of his 3 free throws.
On the other side, Long Beach State, now standing at 1-5, saw Devin Askew leading the way with 19 points supplemented by two steals. TJ Wainwright offered support with 13 points, four assists, and two steals.
In the first half, Augillard managed to score just nine points, leading the Bulldogs into halftime with a deficit of 39-28. However, he turned it around in the second half, adding 16 points to bring his total to 25 and help secure the win.
Fresno State’s comeback showcased their resilience and highlighted the crucial moments, particularly Douglas’s late 3-pointer that propelled them to victory in a tightly contested matchup.
