Jonathan Drouin celebrated his first two goals of the season, contributing to the Colorado Avalanche’s impressive 7-4 victory over the struggling Florida Panthers on Saturday night.
Drouin, who has made only five appearances this season due to an upper-body injury that sidelined him for 16 games, found the back of the net during an explosive performance by the Avalanche.
Mikko Rantanen also shone brightly, notching one goal and providing three assists.
Colorado showcased their offensive prowess with a remarkable four-goal second period, highlighted by Drouin, Rantanen, Logan O’Connor, and Samuel Girard finding the score sheet.
Additionally, Oliver Kylington contributed to the Avalanche’s tally, marking their third consecutive victory on their four-game road trip.
Defensive players Cale Makar and Devon Toews each recorded two assists, enhancing their contributions to the game as well.
On the other side, the Panthers saw goals from Sam Reinhart, Aleksander Barkov, Carter Verhaeghe, and Anton Lundell, but have now lost five out of their last six matches.
Matthew Tkachuk and Mackie Samoskevich each provided two assists for Florida, hoping to turn their slump around.
There were notable milestones during the game. For the Avalanche, Nathan MacKinnon participated in his 812th game, just one shy of equaling Michel Goulet’s mark for the fourth-most in franchise history.
In franchise history, only Joe Sakic (1,378), Milan Hejduk (1,020), and Adam Foote (967) exceed him in games played.
Meanwhile, for the Panthers, Reinhart has now recorded points in 13 consecutive games, tying him with Jonathan Huberdeau and Pavel Bure for the second-longest streak in franchise history.
Mike Hoffman holds the record for the longest streak, with 17 games during the 2018-2019 season.
A decisive moment occurred in the game when Florida was awarded 56 seconds of five-on-three play after Josh Manson was penalized for hooking Barkov.
Although the Panthers thought they had scored just 11 seconds later, the goal was disallowed due to goaltender interference against Tkachuk.
The Panthers challenged the ruling, but the decision stood, and Samoskevich received a delay-of-game penalty as a result.
Additionally, Cale Makar reached a career milestone, notching his 100th multi-point game.
Looking ahead, the Avalanche are set to face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday, while the Panthers will host the Washington Capitals on the same day.
