TAMPA, Fla. – In a dominant performance, Bryce Archie connected for 305 yards and threw two touchdown passes as South Florida triumphed over Tulsa with a score of 63-30 on Saturday.
With this victory, South Florida improved to a record of 6-5, including a 4-3 standing in the American Athletic Conference, securing bowl eligibility for the second consecutive year after failing to reach the postseason for the previous four seasons.
One of the most remarkable moments of the matchup occurred while South Florida held a commanding lead of 49-7. In a bid to score, Tulsa quarterback Kirk Francis launched a long pass intended for Joseph Williams along the right sideline. Williams appeared on the verge of bringing in Tulsa’s second touchdown of the day, but South Florida’s defensive back Ben Knox raced to knock the ball away just short of the goal line and managed to recover it at the 2-yard line.
In addition to Archie’s impressive performance, Kelley Joiner also stood out, rushing for a total of 131 yards paired with two touchdowns. Archie contributed further to the scoring overall, tallying seven carries for 40 yards along with another touchdown.
On the other side, Tulsa struggled, with quarterback Cooper Legas throwing three interceptions throughout the game. Nevertheless, the Tulsa offense saw some success, with Anthony Watkins, Viron Ellison Jr., and Lloyd Avant each managing to score rushing touchdowns, while Watkins led the team with 101 yards on the ground.
Overall, it was an exciting game showcasing South Florida’s offensive strength and defensive determination, positioning them well for a potential postseason appearance.
