Bowling Green Dominates Ball State in MAC Showdown

MUNCIE, Ind. — In an impressive performance on Saturday, Connor Bazelak connected for two touchdown passes while Rahkeem Smith showcased his versatility by scoring three times, leading Bowling Green to a commanding 38-13 victory over Ball State. This win keeps Bowling Green in a tie for the top spot in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).

The matchup marked the first game for Colin Johnson, who stepped in as the interim coach for Ball State. Despite his efforts, the Cardinals were unable to overcome the offensive surge from Bowling Green. With this victory, Bowling Green improved to a record of 7-4, positioning themselves, along with Miami and Ohio, in a three-way tie for the conference lead at 6-1.

Looking ahead, Bowling Green is set to host Miami in a pivotal game next Saturday. The winning team from that matchup will secure a place in the MAC championship game. Meanwhile, Ohio also aims to clinch their spot in the finals with a win over Ball State in their upcoming home game.

Initially, the game was tightly contested, with Bowling Green holding a slight 10-7 lead at halftime. However, the third quarter saw the Falcons pull away with an impressive 18 points, scored without any response from Ball State. The scoring spree included a field goal from Zach Long, a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Smith, and a spectacular 66-yard touchdown reception from Bazelak, which left Smith virtually unchallenged after he caught a swing pass in the backfield.

In the game, Smith stood out with four receptions totaling 81 yards and two receiving touchdowns, while also contributing on the ground with four carries for eight yards and a rushing touchdown. On the other side, Ball State’s Kadin Semonza threw for two touchdown passes and accumulated 211 yards.
