CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — In a thrilling encounter during the 140th edition of The Game, Yale emerged victorious over Harvard with a score of 34-29. Grant Jordan led the charge for Yale, throwing for 287 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Joshua Pitsenberger contributed significantly by scoring in both receiving and rushing capacities. This win marked another successful chapter for Yale as they have now triumphed in six of their last eight meetings against Harvard, solidifying their status in one of college football’s most enduring rivalries.
Yale, now boasting a record of 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the Ivy League, continues to enjoy dominance in this historic matchup, especially considering that Harvard has not secured a victory on their home turf since back in 2014. Despite the loss, Harvard stands at 8-2 and shares the Ivy League title with Dartmouth and Columbia. The Big Green leads the series with 22 championships, while Harvard has 19 and Columbia celebrated their first title win since 1961.
A crucial moment in the game came in the fourth quarter when Pitsenberger made a spectacular play. He caught a short pass after coming out of the backfield, maneuvered past four defenders, and dashed 39 yards to the end zone, extending Yale’s lead to 31-15 with just over 12 minutes left on the clock. Throughout the game, Pitsenberger showcased his versatility, finishing with 120 rushing yards on 25 carries and adding three receptions for 44 yards.
In the waning moments of the match, Nick Conforti secured a 36-yard field goal for Yale, putting the Bulldogs ahead by 11 points. Harvard quickly responded, driving down the field to score via a short run by Xaviah Bascon. However, Yale’s Da’Quan Gonzales played a pivotal role in denying the two-point conversion, maintaining a five-point cushion for the Bulldogs. Following the unsuccessful conversion attempt, Yale managed to regain possession by recovering an onside kick.
Harvard’s Jaden Craig had a commendable performance, throwing for 292 yards and three touchdowns, yet it was not enough to turn the tide in favor of the Crimson as Yale celebrated their significant victory in this storied rivalry.
