The Colorado Rockies announced on Saturday that they have finalized a one-year contract with infielder Kyle Farmer. This decision came on the heels of the team’s choice to non-tender Brendan Rodgers, thus allowing the former first-round selection to become a free agent.

Farmer played for the Minnesota Twins during the past season, where he recorded a batting average of .214, hitting five home runs and driving in 25 runs across 107 games. Over an eight-year career, he has maintained a lifetime batting average of .250, with previous tenures at teams including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, and the Twins.

The 34-year-old Farmer was drafted by the Dodgers in the eighth round back in 2013 after showcasing his talents at the University of Georgia. He made his major league debut on July 30, 2017, when he achieved a hit and contributed two RBIs in a game against the San Francisco Giants.

Earlier this week, the Rockies also decided to non-tender right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill, alongside Rodgers. The 28-year-old Rodgers was notably selected third overall by Colorado during the 2015 amateur draft. Throughout his six-year career with the Rockies, he compiled a batting average of .266 in 452 games and earned a Gold Glove award in 2022 for his performance at second base.
