MADRID — Getafe secured a vital 2-0 victory against the struggling Valladolid, marking only their second win in La Liga this season. This result propelled Getafe out of their winless streak of five games and now positions them in 15th place within the 20-team league standings.
Valladolid, on the other hand, has found themselves in a difficult spot, remaining second to last in the league table.
In the lead-up to this crucial match, Getafe’s sporting director, Rubén Reyes, emphasized the significance of the game, referring to it as a “final.” Despite Getafe’s determination, they were fortunate not to fall behind early, as Valladolid generated more scoring opportunities in the opening minutes.
The tide turned for Getafe in the 69th minute when substitute Álvaro Rodríguez found the net, putting his team ahead. Just three minutes later, Allan Nyom, who was named man of the match, doubled the lead for Getafe, solidifying their position in the game.
Nyom, a seasoned full-back from Cameroon, expressed relief after the match, stating, “There have been many games where we’ve put in the effort and came away with either a loss or a draw. This win is a reflection of all the hard work we’ve invested in training.”
Adding to the troubles for Valladolid, their coach Paulo Pezzolano was sent off before halftime. The Uruguayan’s dismissal highlighted his team’s discipline issues, as he was already facing the league’s worst disciplinary record, with seven yellow cards before his red card on Friday.
