PARIS – France claimed victory against a reckless Argentine team with a score of 37-23 on Friday, successfully completing their three-match autumn rugby test series.
In the first half, France showcased their strength with tries from lock Thibaud Flament and right winger Gabin Villière, along with a penalty try, giving them a commanding halftime lead of 30-9.
In the second half, left winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey further solidified France’s lead with another try, while Argentina’s Thomas Gallo and substitute hooker Ignacio Ruiz each found the try zone as the Pumas attempted to mount a comeback. Despite narrowing the score to 37-23 with ten minutes to go, time ran out for the Argentine team at Stade de France.
Under the guidance of coach Fabien Galthié, France displayed a formidable offensive performance throughout their autumn series, having previously defeated Japan 52-12 and narrowly outlasting New Zealand 30-29.
Although Argentina enjoyed a victory over France in July in Buenos Aires, they have not won a match on French soil in a decade.
The match began with a setback for Argentina as captain Julian Montoya received a yellow card, yet they managed to stay competitive, trailing 13-9 after 30 minutes. However, their chances dwindled when flanker Juan Martin Gonzalez also received a yellow card, allowing France to capitalize with another penalty try amid growing pressure.
Argentina showed improvement in the second half, leading to Gallo’s try from an attacking lineout, successfully converted by flyhalf Tomas Albornoz. Nevertheless, the momentum quickly shifted back to France when Bielle-Biarrey sprinted to retrieve his own kick for a try in the left corner, effectively snuffing out any hopes of an Argentine resurgence.
