WNBA sensation Caitlin Clark is now a part of Cincinnati’s initiative to secure a franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
Major League Soccer’s FC Cincinnati is at the forefront of this movement, aiming to introduce a women’s professional soccer team to the area. The organization released a statement acknowledging Clark’s involvement in this ambitious endeavor.
“The NWSL Cincinnati bid team is excited to welcome Caitlin Clark to our ownership group as we work towards establishing a women’s professional soccer presence in our city,” read the team’s announcement.
“Her dedication to the sport, her efforts to promote women’s athletics throughout the Greater Cincinnati area, and her role as an inspiration to women and girls globally make her an integral part of our compelling proposition to become the 16th franchise in the NWSL.”
NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman has indicated that the official announcement for the league’s 16th team will take place by the end of the current year. The 15th team is set to commence operations in Boston in 2026.
This weekend marks the NWSL championship clash between the Orlando Pride and the Washington Spirit at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City.
In her rookie season with the Indiana Fever, Clark has made waves by averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and a league-leading 8.4 assists, earning her the title of WNBA Rookie of the Year. The Fever concluded the season with a balanced record of 20-20, successfully making it to the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 season.
