Hyundai and Kia have announced a recall affecting more than 208,000 of their electric vehicles due to a critical issue that can lead to the loss of driving power, thereby heightening the risk of accidents.
This recall encompasses over 145,000 Hyundai and Genesis models, specifically the Ioniq 5 produced from 2022 to 2024, the Ioniq 6 manufactured between 2023 and 2025, as well as the GV60 and GV70 models. Additionally, the G80 from 2023 and 2024 is part of the recall.
There are also nearly 63,000 Kia EV6 vehicles that fall under this recall, covering the production years 2022 through 2024.
According to documents submitted to government entities, the interconnected South Korean automakers identified that a failing transistor within the vehicle’s charging control unit could lead to damage, which would ultimately prevent the 12-volt battery from charging.
To remedy the situation, dealerships will carry out inspections and will replace the control unit as well as the fuse if necessary. Furthermore, software updates will be implemented as part of the fix. Customers whose vehicles had previously been recalled for the same concern will need to revisit their dealerships for a follow-up repair.
Notifications regarding the recall will be sent out to owners via postal mail in December and January, advising them of the steps they need to take.
