McDonald’s is set to enhance its value menu in the United States starting early next year as part of its efforts to attract customers who are feeling the pinch of rising prices.

Beginning on January 7, customers will have the option to purchase one full-priced item from a specially designed value menu and receive a second item from that menu for just $1. The selections on this menu include popular items such as the Sausage McMuffin, hash browns, a McChicken sandwich, and small fries.

In addition to this new offering, McDonald’s will also extend its $5 Meal Deal into next summer. This deal, which was initially introduced in June, had previously been extended through the end of this year during September. The Chicago-based fast-food giant has mentioned that it will continue to provide localized promotions and app-exclusive deals, including complimentary drinks for users.

With the gradual decrease in grocery price inflation, McDonald’s has noticed a trend where customers increasingly prefer dining at home rather than going out to eat. According to recent data from the U.S. government, prices for food consumed away from home rose by 3.8% compared to the previous year, while those for food eaten at home only increased by 1.1%.

McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal has proven successful in helping the brand regain some of its lost clientele, especially as it faced competition from rivals such as Burger King. In fact, during the period from July to September, the company’s same-store sales in the U.S.—which measure performance at locations operational for at least a year—rose by 0.3% compared to the same timeframe last year.
