CLEMSON, S.C. — In a commanding performance, Chauncey Wiggins contributed significantly with 16 points, while Dillon Hunter recorded a personal best of 15 points, aiding Clemson in a decisive 79-51 victory over Radford during a Sunshine Slam campus matchup on Thursday evening.
Clemson is set to head to Daytona Beach, Florida, where they will face San Francisco in the Sunshine Jam on Monday. Meanwhile, Radford will also make their way to Florida for a contest against Chicago State in the Ocean Division of the same tournament.
The Highlanders faced difficulties during the second half, managing to connect on just three of their first 18 attempts, which led to a significant deficit of 60-37 with six minutes remaining in the game. They endured two separate stretches in this half where they failed to score after seven consecutive missed shots.
For Clemson (4-1), Ian Schieffelin was notable, finishing with 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds. He stands out as one of only five players nationally who is averaging at least 11.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game this season. Chase Hunter, who had just come off a career-best performance with 30 points against Boise State, managed to score only 10 points in this matchup.
On the side of Radford (4-2), Zion Walker emerged as the top scorer, leading his team with 10 points.
Wiggins kicked off the game strong, contributing 10 points in the first half and helping Clemson to a solid 38-26 lead by halftime. Radford struggled significantly, shooting just 9 of 28 from the field in the first half, including a dismal 1 of 8 from beyond the arc. The Highlanders finished the game shooting only 31% overall from the field.
